Sierra Nevada Brewing has a new beer in the works and a nationwide fundraiser to help relief efforts in the wake of the Camp Fire.
The brewery is sharing the recipe (and ingredients) for the Resilience IPA to any brewery that's interested _ on the condition that the proceeds from the beer are donated back to the Northern California communities hit hardest by the blaze.
"I'm sending a letter to brewers across the country, inviting them to join us in a collaboration brew day on Tuesday, Nov. 27," Sierra Nevada founder Ken Grossman wrote in a post on Facebook. "We are working with malt and hop suppliers to provide raw ingredient donations to all participating breweries and are asking those breweries to donate 100 percent of their sales, as well,"
Already, hundreds of breweries have signed on (look in the Facebook comments for a partial list).
Locally, that includes Tioga Sequoia Brewing Company, Mad Duck Craft Brewing Co., Full Circle Brewing Company and Pine and Palm Brewing in Fresno; Rocky Hill Brewing in Exeter, Turlock's Dust Bowl Brewing Co. and Barrel House Brewing from Paso Robles.
Details are still being finalized but Sierra Nevada's expects to have its version of the beer available in cans and on draft Dec. 10. Other versions of the beer will be available on tap only at the respective breweries/taprooms around the same time.
As of Friday, Camp Fire burned 239 square miles since it started Nov. 8 near the brewery's home base in Chico. Recovery is an ongoing process.
The brewery was spared and its taproom reopened earlier this month, but many of its employees live in communities that were devastated by the fire, Grossman said.
"We know that the rebuilding process will take time, but we're in this for the long haul. Our hope is to get Resilience IPA in taprooms all over the country to create a good foundation for our community's future," Grossman said in the letter to California breweries.
Already, Sierra Nevada has created its own relief fund through the Golden Valley Community Bank Foundation into which it donated $100,000.
