Sideways stunners on show

The Bangkok International Salon 2023 held last week featured a large collection of privately-owned customised cars as well as special models from major automakers targeted at buyers looking for something different.

The main highlight of the Bangkok Auto Salon was the collection of top custom cars from the Tokyo Auto Salon held in January. This year, six top machines were flown in for Thai custom car enthusiasts to admire.

Toyota GR86 S-DESIGN SD3

The Toyota GR86 gets a totally new aero treatment -- only the headlights and tail lights are original. The new engine compartment lid is lower and features a see-through acrylic panel that reveals the engine.

The underbody features canards for aerodynamic management resulting in better cornering at high speeds thanks to increased downforce.

Mazda RX-7 FD3S RE Amemiya Matsumotokiyoshi APA-7

This is one of the top exhibits from the 2023 Tokyo Auto Salon -- a racing car that's gone through an aeroparts and engine upgrade by Isami Amemiya, aka the "God of Rotary".

Matsumotokiyoshi drugstore returned as a sponsor for RE Amemiya again and this car will also compete in the D1 Grand Prix drift competition as well.

Honda S2000 BN Sport

This year BN Sports joined hands with "Drift King" Keiichi Tsuchiya in producing an aero package that's low and wide for the Honda S2000, called the BN Sports BLS Wide Body.

The front end features a canard-integrated spoiler lip while the bonnet is drilled to improve cooling. The front and rear fenders are 75mm and 80mm respectively with Work Emotion CR3P wheels.

Nissan Fairlady 400z Top Secret

Top Secret is a legendary tuner led by Smokey Nagata who once took his souped-up Toyota Supra to drive in England at 324kph.

This year, Top Secret showed off a golden Nissan Fairlady 400z featuring a tuned 550hp engine, lightweight carbon fibre body parts as well as a huge rear spoiler.

Suzuki Jimny 660 Crawler N's Limited

This is a special model from N's Stage, a Suzuki tuning specialist, with the theme of an open-top Jimny.

Engineers removed the roof and added roll bars, Recaro RCS seats and 4-point Sabelt seatbelts. Apart from rugged looks, this Jimny's off-road performance will also impress enthusiasts.

Ford Mustang Pandem

Pandem is a famous tuning house that usually offers parts for Japanese and European cars, and this is their first attempt at American cars like the Ford Mustang. Displaying a mix of styling, the car features the large fenders that Pandem is known for. A 5th-gen Mustang was used for this project to offer cheaper alternatives and expand the customer base in the United States.

Meanwhile, there was also a bunch of custom and special models from major brands such as a BMW M2, Honda Civic Type-R, Mazda2 Facelift and a large number of customised Isuzu and Toyota models.
