There's speculation that Alex Rodriguez, flailing at the plate at age 41, could be released by the Yankees before season's end _ even with a guaranteed $21 million owed him for next season.
"He has no business being on the roster any longer, even with home run No. 700 just around the corner," wrote Bob Klapisch of USA Today. "It's a joyless pursuit, like a broken-down race car, out of fuel, staggering to the checkered flag."
