Side strain rules out South Africa pacer Gerald Coetzee for Test series in West Indies

South Africa pacer Gerald Coetzee will miss the upcoming two-Test series against the West Indies scheduled for next month due to a left side strain. The injury occurred while he was participating in Twenty20 cricket matches in the United States, according to Cricket South Africa's announcement on Thursday.

Coetzee returned to South Africa after sustaining the injury earlier this month to undergo medical examinations, which ultimately determined that he would be unable to participate in the Caribbean tour.

In his place, the uncapped Migael Pretorius has been selected. The 29-year-old, who claimed 23 wickets while playing for Somerset in the County Championship this year, had previously been included in the Test squad in December 2020 for the series against Sri Lanka but did not feature in any matches.

The first Test will take place at Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago from August 7 to 11. The teams will then head to Guyana for the second Test, which will be held in Georgetown from August 15 to 19.
