Siddharth Anand hails John Abraham for playing anti-nationalist despite being a nationalist; says 'Pathaan' would not be the same without Jim

Siddharth Anand, who is currently riding high on the super success of his film, ‘Pathaan’, recently opened up about John Abraham and his character in the spy-thriller.

In an interview with a news portal, Siddharth said that they wanted to create a character that a mainstream actor would agree to do. The filmmaker also added that hats off to John for agreeing to play an anti-national despite being a guy who is a nationalist. According to him, the actor is the torch-bearer of nationalism. ‘Pathaan’ would not be the same without Jim, Siddharth told Film Companion.

Earlier, the director had clarified that John was their first and only choice to play the villain in the spy thriller. According to him, they wanted a villain who the audience would cherish forever. He also added that he is delighted to see the response that people have showered on John as he takes on Shah Rukh Khan in the film.

Siddharth also spilled some beans on the possibility of a sequel or prequel about Jim. Although he said it is too early to talk about anything, he admitted that Jim’s character does warrant a prequel. According to him, it is a universe and you can do anything with the characters – it’s a playground.

‘Pathaan’ also stars Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles. The film also features Salman Khan in a special cameo.
