Sickening hit leaves rugby star struggling to stand as worried referee tells him to sit down

Queensland Reds lock Angus Blyth saw red for a horror tackle on Corey Toole that left the Brumbies winger struggling to stand up.

During their Super Rugby Pacific clash on Friday, Blyth caught Toole high with a shocking tackle as the wing kicked forward early in the match.

As Toole got back to his feet, it was clear he was struggling - stumbling around before referee Ben O'Keefe told him to sit down. He would subsequently fail his HIA.

Blyth would initially only receive a yellow card for the incident from O'Keefe. However, the TMO would later upgrade it to a red.

Reaction to Blyth’s action has been strong on social media.

Rugby writer Jamie Wall slammed the tackle, tweeting: “This should be upgraded to red simply for being about the stupidest way you can tackle someone."

Several more questioned how O'Keefe could only give a yellow card to begin with.

What seems certain is that Blyth will now likely receive a lengthy ban.
