Sickening Dublin hit-and-run involving little girl was caught on CCTV

A sickening hit-and-run that left a little girl injured on the roadside was caught on CCTV, it has emerged.

The five-year-old was crossing the road on Kildonan Avenue in Finglas, North Dublin in her go-kart on Tuesday, June 2 when she was struck.

The shameless motorist sped from the scene instead of checking on the injured child following the hit-and-run, which occurred in broad daylight.

The youngster was rushed to Temple Street Children’s Hospital following the smash.

Local Fianna Fail councillor Keith Connolly told Dublin Live gardai now have vital footage which may help in the manhunt for the thug driver.

He said: “My understanding is that a neighbour had CCTV footage and they’ve now passed it onto Gardai who are currently investigating the video.”

Kildonan Avenue is a narrow road with lots of family homes on either side and is cut off at one end by a playground. Worried residents have been pleading for speed bumps to be put in place for years to protect their children.

Mr Connolly added: “Residents in the area have been calling out for speed calming measures and this just shows that their voices need to be heard.

“Their proposals [for speed bumps] have been rejected on numerous occasions by the traffic department - but that needs an urgent review which I will be looking into.”

A recent report carried out on the road, taking into account speeding and collision records, determined that the percentage of incidents there over a certain period were too low to match the criteria for ramps.

Councillor Connolly added: “The adjoining roads have speed bumps and Kildonan Avenue needs them too.”
