Thug smashed bottle into man's face in sickening attack at Manchester city centre bus stop

A thug smashed a glass bottle into a man's face as he stood at a city centre bus stop.

Police said he needed hospital treatment for deep cuts to his head.

An investigation is underway and police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

The victim - a man aged in his mid-20s - was stood at a bus stop on John Dalton Street in Manchester city centre when police said a black Jeep vehicle stopped next to him.

Three or four men were inside at the time.

Police said one of them got out and put the man into a headlock.

He then smashed the glass bottle into his face before the Jeep left the scene.

Police are investigating and appealing for witnesses (MEN)

The attack happened in the early hours of Sunday, June 9, but details have only just been released by the force.

No arrests have been confirmed.

GMP want to hear from anyone who was in the area between 1.30am and 2am who might have information.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "The man suffered two deep cuts to the head just above the eyes which required hospital treatment.

"The offender is described as Asian, approximately 6ft 2ins tall with dark hair which was long on top and short on the sides.

"He was wearing a red or black t-shirt.

"Following the attack, the man got back in the black Jeep which made off from the incident along the A34 towards Salford."

No further details or CCTV has been revealed.
