Sick yobs wreck disability canal boat for second time leaving Scots charity devastated

A charity has hit out a sick yobs who have vandalised their canal boat for a second time.

Volunteers at the Seagull Trust Cruises in Falkirk say they are devastated after windows on the barge were smashed twice in the space of a few weeks.

The first incident at Bantaskine Estate happened on Saturday February, 20, with the second taking place on Tuesday March, 9.

They provide free access to the Forth and Clyde Canal for people with special needs and the elderly and their boats are specially designed with lifts to enable wheelchair access.

Marjory Sime is one of the volunteers and told Falkirk Live: "We're all devastate. For it to happen once is bad enough, but twice is heartbreaking.

"We did not report the first incident to the police as we felt that it was a one off. However, after the second incident we felt we had no choice but to report the matter.

"Our boathouse and surrounds is popular with cyclist and dog walkers so hopefully someone saw something and if they did it would be helpful if they contact the police with information if they have any."

A fundraiser has now been set up as they try to gather cash for CCTV cameras to be installed around the site.

An investigation has started into both attacks.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We received a report around 3.50pm on Wednesday, 10 March of a boat which had been vandalised at Bantaskine Estate near Falkirk.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
