Police have praised the bravery of a Rutherglen pensioner after the sick thug who raped her pled guilty to the crime.
John Laming, 32, carried out the horrific crime on Christmas Eve last year at an address in Coldstream Drive.
He had only been released from prison earlier that month.
He pled guilty to the crime earlier this week at the High Court in Glasgow.
Detective Inspector Gordon Sneddon, senior investigating officer said: "Laming is a depraved individual who targeted his elderly victim in her own home. He has admitted his actions and pled guilty in court which, at the very least, spares his victim and her family a further ordeal of a trial.
"This was a crime which shocked the communities of Rutherglen, however I must make clear that this type of crime is extremely rare.
"I would like to pay tribute to the bravery of the woman he attacked for her courage throughout this devastating period in her life."
