Sick sex offender raped his victim as she slept

A sick sex offender preyed on his victim and raped her as she slept.

Predatory Joshua Robson, 23, even pretended that he was asleep himself when his victim woke up in pain.

The 20-year-old-victim, who was abused by Robson in October 2018, reported the attack to police officers straight away.

Chronicle Live reports that Robson was arrested then charged for the offence.

He denied the allegation but a jury at Newcastle Crown Court chose not to believe his lies and the 23-year-old was found guilty of one count of rape on July 30.

Det Cons Catherine Burns, who led the investigation for Northumbria Police says she hopes Robson's conviction sends out a strong message to other would-be offenders.

"I really commend the bravery of the victim as she has been so strong throughout this investigation," she said.

"Robson took advantage of a situation for his own sexual gratification and has shown no remorse for what he has done. Now he faces the consequences of his actions.

"I hope this sends a strong message that any sexual contact that is not consensual is a crime. No one should be subjected to something they do not consent to and if you have been a victim of such an attack, I would urge you to come forward to police.

“I know this conviction will give the victim a sense of justice and hope she can begin to heal after suffering significantly as a result of this attack.”

Robson of Esher Place, Cramlington has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced on August 27 at Teesside Crown Court.
