Sick puppy undergoes life-saving operation at UCD, and the ISPCA need your help with costs

A sick puppy needs urgent surgery in order for it to survive and an animal shelter is calling on the public to help.

The ISPCA is issuing an urgent appeal to help cover the costs and save Odhrán, an 8-week old Spaniel cross puppy, who needs a very expensive procedure to be carried out by a cardiac specialist.

He needs to have an abnormality in his heart repaired, called Persistent Right Aortic Arch, so that he can go on to live a happy life.

His condition was discovered as he struggled to keep food down and kept regurgitating it.

Following urgent assessments and x-rays, vets discovered a sac-like pouch called a diverticulum on his oesophagus into which food was being diverted when he attempted to eat.

ISPCA Donegal Animal Centre Manager, Denise McCausland, said: “Odhrán is such a sweet and brave little puppy, and though he is small little his personality is already starting to show.

“He is so young and deserves the best chance to overcome this condition and live a happy life.

“Thanks to the staff at the UCD Veterinary Hospital for helping with this surgery that will hopefully save him.”
