A depraved pervert who subjected a young woman to a horrific sex attack in an East Kilbride nightclub is behind bars.
Edison Bala, 29, left his victim heavily bleeding after he molested her in front of a packed bar at Downtown nightclub in May 2018.
At Hamilton Sheriff Court today the sick Albanian national was sentenced to a year in jail and placed on the sex offenders' register for 10 years.
Edison, from Rutherglen, had been remanded awaiting sentence following the trial where he was found guilty of assaulting his victim, placing his hand up her skirt, ripping her clothing and penetrating her with his fingers.
The brave victim, now 23, spoke exclusively to the East Kilbride News describing how the random attack left her suicidal - stabbing herself in the stomach with a kitchen knife at her lowest ebb.
And her ordeal wasn't over when she faced intimidation from Bala's friends while giving evidence - so much so the court had to be closed.
She courageously attended court on Tuesday when Edison was originally due to be sentenced only for it to be further deferred when no Albanian interpreter was available.
At today's hearing Sheriff Daniel Kelly backdated Bala's sentence to January 14 when he was remanded in custody following the trial.
