Sick paedophile travelled 90 miles to meet 'little girl' for sex

A sick paedophile travelled 90 miles across the country to meet a little girl for sex.

James Buntain, from Wirral, drove from his home to Barnsley after arranging to meet a 12-year-old online.

The 57-year-old was sending messages to the youngster back and forth and had planned to travel across the country to meet her on November 7, 2019.

But when he arrived, Buntain was arrested by the undercover officers he had actually been speaking to.

According to YorkshireLive, Buntain was arrested in Barnsley and after police carried out further enquiries, they discovered he had also been enaging online with other children.

Buntain, of Wellbrae Close in Greasby, appeared before Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday, September 23, after pleading guilty to eight offences, including inciting sexual activity with a child.

He was described by Judge David Dixon QC as posing an "incredibly high risk" of carrying out sexual offences towards young children and the judge decided to lock him up for 11 years.

The Yorkshire and Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit set up the operaton to catch online child sex offenders and at court, Buntain was also convicted for messages sent to another unidentified but presumed child victim.

Senior Investigating Officer, DCI Jon Best of the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Crime Unit, said: “We welcome the sentencing of this truly repugnant individual and the clear message the magnitude of his sentence delivers about the seriousness of this offending.
