Sick dog put to sleep after being abandoned in Cumbernauld

A Scottish animal and rescue charity is appealing for information after a seriously ill bulldog was found abandoned in Cumbernauld.

The dog was discovered alone on Fannyside Road at around 2pm on October 12 by a member of the public, who took the injured female to a nearby vets.

The animal was underweight, covered in blood and in horrific condition and vets later decided to put her to sleep.

Now the Scottish SPCA are asking for any information.

SSPCA inspector Robyn Myszor told Lanarkshire Live : "The dog was a female white and tan bulldog who we believe to be between four and five years old.

"She was not microchipped or wearing a collar when she was found.

"The dog was unconscious and unresponsive.

"She was suffering from infected entropion, chronic dermatitis on the underside of her body and had deep, infected puncture wounds on her legs and chest consistent with dog bites.

"She was also very dirty, underweight and covered in blood.

"On veterinary advice it was decided that the kindest thing to do would be to put her to sleep and end her suffering.

"We’re keen to find out how the dog came to be in this condition and why she was left alone at the side of a road when she was clearly unwell and in pain.

"If anyone has any information on this incident they can contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999."
