Siânnise Fudge's 'Aladdin' comment on Love Island sparks 36 complaints to Ofcom

Bristol’s Love Island contestant Siânnise Fudge has generated 36 complaints to Ofcom for likening another islander to Aladdin.

The complaints relate to the first episode of the inaugural winter series of the ITV2 show, which aired on Sunday (January 12).

Referring to her partner Nas Majeed, 25-year-old Fudge said: “I love Princess Jasmine and he kind of looks like Aladdin.”

But the comment triggered a flurry of social media activity, with one Twitter user writing: “We all just Aladdin n Jasmine to yous huh?”

Ofcom received a total of 272 complaints following Sunday’s episode, with 36 concerning Fudge’s comment.

An Ofcom spokesperson said: “We are assessing these complaints against our broadcasting rules, but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate.”

It is the sixth season of the reality TV show, in which contestants look for their perfect match and seek the public’s approval.

The current series is being hosted by Laura Whitmore, who replaced Caroline Flack.
