Siam Piwat in B300m festive spending spree

Ms Chanisa (left) and Mr Supoj. Mr Supoj expressed confidence that the festive line-up of world-class events during November and December will attract visitors and tourists from across the globe.

Siam Piwat Group, the operator of Siam Paragon, Siam Center, Siam Discovery and Iconsiam, is spending 300 million baht to stimulate a shopping spree among local and foreign shoppers during the year-end festive season.

Supoj Chaiwatsirikul, managing director of Iconsiam, said on behalf of Siam Piwat Group that the spending will be allocated for marketing events and promotional activities at its four shopping malls in the remaining two months of this year.

Of the total budget, 150 million baht will be used for Iconsiam, and the remaining 150 million baht will be used for its other three shopping complexes under the group.

"Since the government reopened the country and relaxed Covid-19 restrictions, shopping centres have seen a great number of local shoppers and international visitors returning, especially during weekends. This reflects visitors' greater confidence,'' Mr Supoj said.

Many product categories such as fashion, IT and gadgets, beauty and food and beverage sections have also seen continuous growth, he said.

According to Mr Supoj, customer traffic flow at Siam Paragon, Siam Center and Siam Discovery has been on average 70,000 visitors on weekdays and 100,000 visitors at the weekends.

Before the pandemic, Siam Paragon, Siam Center and Siam Discovery drew between 110,000-150,000 visitors per day.

Meanwhile, there are about 50,000 Thai visitors per day at Iconsiam now, up from 30,000 before the crisis.

"The group has set a full scheme of festive line-ups that feature world-class events," Mr Supoj said. "It is expected to have 7-8 big events occurring in November and December of this year including The Amazing Thailand Countdown 2022, which is organised by The Tourism Authority of Thailand and Iconsiam together with the government and private alliances. The company expects the global countdown will attract tourists from across the globe," he said.

Chanisa Kaewruen, senior deputy managing director for marketing promotion and corporate relations at Siam Piwat Co, said Thailand remained an attractive location for international investors to debut their stores.

The Gundam, for instance, today has a grand opening for its first original flagship store in Southeast Asia, featuring Gunpla (plastic models from the Japanese anime Gundam series), spanning over 360 square metres of space at Siam Center.

KFC will launch its new Urban Digital Life concept, featuring modern interior design and touchless services to serve the new normal lifestyle, while the Vans flagship store will also open at Siam Center next month.

Kiko Milano, Italy's beauty brand, opened its first shop at Siam Center last month, while the lifestyle coffee shop and restaurant CDGRE recently opened at Gourmet Garden, which is located on the ground floor of Siam Paragon.
