SI writer names Georgia QB Jake Fromm “sleeper” candidate to win Heisman Trophy

Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm is arguably one of the three best quarterbacks in the country along with Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa and Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence.

In his two seasons at Georgia, he’s led the Bulldogs to a 24-5 record, two SEC Championship appearances (winning one of them), a Rose Bowl win and came oh so close to winning the national title as a freshman.

Taking into account all the success he’s had to date and the success he is likely to have this year, Tim Rohan of Sports Illustrated chose Fromm as his “sleeper candidate” to win the 2019 Heisman Trophy.

From SI:

In recent years, the Heisman winner has typically been a quarterback on a title contender who puts up gaudy numbers. That describes Tua Tagovailoa and Trevor Lawrence perfectly, but watch out for Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm, too. He’s a very efficient passer who’s entering his third year in the Bulldogs offense. If Fromm beats Alabama in the SEC title game, he should have as good a case as anyone for the Heisman.

I don’t know if I’d consider Fromm a sleeper to bring home the coveted trophy by any means. Look at what he’s done, what he’s about to do, who he is surrounded by and what conference he plays in. All those things (assuming he and Georgia play as well as everybody expects) equate to a Heisman finalist. In addition, I’ve read multiple stories that have Fromm going in the top 5 of 2020 NFL mock drafts. Sure, there’s Tagovailoa and Lawrence, the two Heisman frontrunners right now. But after them, it’s Fromm. After Fromm, it’s everybody else.
