Si Ferry pinpoints the Odsonne Edouard factor Celtic 'haven't seen enough' this season as he makes transfer claim

Pundit Si Ferry insists Odsonne Edouard hasn't been leading from the front for Celtic when the club needed him this season.

Edouard is currently on a run of nine goals in as many league games and has rocketed to the top of the Scottish Premiership scoring charts.

However there's a sense it's too little, too late with rivals Rangers now just four points from the title.

And despite his solid recent return in front of goal, former Lennoxtown youth Ferry reckons the French frontman sometimes neglects the dirty work and pressing that could have given his team-mates a lift during the hard times this term.

He told Go Radio: "I just think, see when it's your best player, Celtic look to Edouard as their best player and you can see that when they look to pass him the ball.

"See when your best player is sprinting about, trying to get the ball back, that follows through to the rest of the team.

"I've not seen that enough from him this season when Celtic have needed it."

Interim manager John Kennedy has revealed the club will sit down with Edouard in the summer to assess his future.

The striker is reportedly a major target for former Parkhead boss Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City and has been linked with a whole host of clubs in England's Premier League and across Europe.

Ferry believes the 23-year-old can still improve at a bigger side if he were to make the jump as he made a comparison with Ibrox striker Alfredo Morelos.

He added: "The thing clubs will be looking at with Edouard, I think Morelos is playing at the top of his game.

"Whereas I think Edouard still has two or three more levels to go.

"I think if he goes and works with a top coach at a top team, with better players, I think Edouard could reach really high levels.

"He still doesn't score enough goals in the penalty box, for me. He scores some nice goals at the edge of the box, turning and getting his shots away.

"But I think in terms of the work-rate and adding the dirty goals in the six yard box - if you get those two things into his game he's going to be a top player."
