Top-ranked Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai registered another trophy on Sunday in a win over the Japanese finalists at the BWF Japan Open.

The Thai duo overcame a one-set deficit to defeat Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino, seeded third in the tournament, 16-21, 23-21, 21-18 to win the mixed doubles championship contest in Osaka.

"Champions!," the Badminton Association of Thailand wrote on Facebook.

It was the pair's third crown of the year after the German Open and the Singapore Open.

Government spokesman Anucha Buraphachaisri said the government praised them for setting an example for other young Thais to follow and showing the potential of Thai players in international arenas.
