Shuttle bus replacement for tram passengers travelling through city centre as maintenance work announced

Tram passengers will have to travel on temporary shuttle buses through the city centre, after plans for essential maintenance work were announced.

The works are to repair "one of the busiest sections of the network" and are scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 28.

Nottingham Express Transit, who operate the trams, said a normal Sunday service will operate across most of the network.

But a temporary shuttle bus will run between Nottingham Station and Old Market Square during the day.

The Lace Market tram stop will also be closed for the day.

Trams will run as normal between Nottingham Station, Toton Lane and Clifton South as well as Phoenix Park, Hucknall and Old Market Square.

Mike Mabey, NET Head of Operations, said: The tram is at the heart of the city’s transport network, and from time to time we have to carry out essential maintenance work.

“This ensures we can continue to provide a safe, comfortable and reliable service to customers.

“We try to do this at quieter times of the year, and every effort is being made to keep any inconvenience to an absolute minimum with engineers pulling out all the stops to complete the work in a day.”

NET has said additional staff will be on hand to give advice to people travelling through disruption through the city centre.

Mr Mabey added: "We would advise customers to allow a little extra time for their journeys and apologise for any inconvenience whilst we carry out this planned maintenance that’s vital to the safe and efficient running of the network.”

Full services are set to resume on Monday, April 29, NET confirmed.
