Shuttered Japanese aquarium posts animal videos online

An aquarium in Chuo Ward, Niigata, is drawing many virtual visitors, thanks to videos of its animals that it's putting up on social media.

Niigata City Aquarium Marinepia Nihonkai (Sea of Japan) is scheduled to be closed through Sunday to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.

But people can still see its various inhabitants through videos posted online, including an about 9-month-old Pacific white-sided dolphin being fed by a keeper, and bright yellow and blue fish swimming in a tank that simulates a coral reef.

The video of the dolphin had been watched more than 3,500 times in the four days since it was released on Friday.

The aquarium is scheduled to put up new videos every day on Twitter at @marinepia_2. "We want people to get interested in marine life by watching it through video clips from home," an official of the aquarium said.
