Shops in Srinagar remain closed as part of a one-day strike on the 37th death anniversary of JKLF founder Mohammad Maqbool Bhat on February 11 . (Source: The Hindu)

A shutdown was observed in parts of the Kashmir valley on the 37th death anniversary of JKLF founder Maqbool Bhat, who was hanged in 1984 in New Delhi’s Tihar jail.

Officials said security was deployed in strength in all volatile pockets of the Valley. A senior police official said no untoward incident was reported during the day.

However, the shutdown affected the normal life. Most shops and offices remained closed. The public transport was off the roads. However, a thin private traffic plied on the roads.

This is the second shutdown in the past three days in Kashmir. The shutdown call was issued by the Hurriyat and the banned outfit JKLF.
