Hakeem Jeffries is taking down all MAGA maniacs, one at a time. After challenging Republican Speaker Mike Johnson on Tuesday for a debate, the House minority leader has now taken down Mike Lawler.
As Jeffries was walking out of a press conference held by the House Democratic leadership on Oct. 8, Lawler, the Republican Representative for New York’s 17th congressional district, suddenly ambushed him. But little did he know, Jeffries was not in the mood for any uninvited stupidity.
As soon as Lawler shoved the one-year ACA subsidies bill into his face, asking him to sign, Jeffries struck back: “Did you get permission from your boss, Donald Trump?” The paper that Lawler kept flaunting has already been called a “laughable proposition” by Jeffries, who argued that a one-year extension of the enhanced ACA subsidies is humiliating when the Republicans have already adopted a permanent extension of massive tax breaks “for their billionaire donors.” (via The Hill)
While Lawler kept persuading him to sign the papers and attacking him for not doing so, Jeffries brutally called him out, saying, “You’re making a show of this to make yourself relevant.” With multiple reporters present at the scene, he also warned Lawler that he’s “embarrassing” himself chasing the clout. But despite all his attempts at calmly handling the conversation, Lawler kept hurling accusations at him.
After repeatedly trying to have a normal discussion, Jeffries finally gave up and gave Lawler a taste of his own medicine. He strictly announced, “You’re not going to talk to me and talk over me because you don’t want to hear what I have to say. So, why don’t you just keep your mouth shut?” He continued by reiterating the Democratic demand for permanent extension.
Jeffries later posted about the standoff on his X account, writing, “Some random Republican tried to come for me in the Halls of Congress. Things didn’t work out well for him.” When asked about the incident on The Siren Podcast by Majid Padellan a.k.a. Brooklyn Dad Defiant, Jeffries labeled Lawler “a complete and total fraud.”
“I think some of my team would have probably preferred that I just ignore him, but I’m like, ‘You know what, I’m not the one.’ Don’t come for me unless I send for you. And I did not send for this malignant clown. I think he thought he was confronting Beltway Hakeem, but he saw Brooklyn Hakeem.”
Well, we’re glad Brooklyn Hakeem was on duty today because someone needed to tell that MAGA madman off and expose their fake act of patriotism.
