Shut out scammers Dumbarton roadshow urges public to be safe

Police held a roadshow in Dumbarton to warn householders not to become victims of bogus callers.

Hundreds of thousands of pounds are lost every year to doorstep scams and local officers want to make sure people here don’t fall foul.

The Shut Out Scammers stall was at the West Dunbartonshire Council offices in Dumbarton with information available on how householders can protect themselves.

PC Dale Logsdon of the preventions and interventions team at Dumbarton police office said: “Doorstep crime affects people in all parts of our communities but can be particularly devastating to the vulnerable.”

The event comes as part of Police Scotland’s national Shut Out Scammers campaign taking place over the next two weeks.

Chief Superintendent John McKenzie, who leads Safer Communities, said: “Nobody is immune to this kind of crime. It is incredibly invasive and victims often feel embarrassed about being deceived.

“We take doorstep crime very seriously and understand the significant impact it has on victims. It is vital that people report crimes to us when they happen.”
