Shrewsbury Town danger men: Who Sunderland need to watch out for on Saturday

After winning handsomely on Tuesday night against Tranmere, Sunderland head to the New Meadow to play Shrewsbury Town this Saturday.

The Blues sit 14th in League One after back-to-back draws against Gillingham and Lincoln City.

In Shrewsbury's midweek game vs Gilingham, Town's average age was 23.7 making them one of the youngest teams in the league this season.

Here are three danger men that Phil Parkinson's side will need to look out for.

Sean Goss

The former Manchester United youth product dropped down to League One this summer after his two-and-a-half year stint at the club with mixed loan spells in the Scottish Premiership, particularly a successful time with Rangers.

He is a central midfielder who loves a long-range effort and is especially strong at set-pieces. With two assists so far this season and one man of the match performance, he could shine this Saturday.

Sunderland's midweek win against Tranmere has shown that they know where the goal is, but Shrewsbury Town might have the answer to stop Black Cats' goalscorers.

Aaron Pierre

Standing tall at 6ft 1ns and weighing 88kg, he is a centre-half who loves a strong tackle and gets rid of danger at the first time of asking.

The defender has had two man-of-the-match performances in 10 appearances this season and even chipped in with a goal.

Pierre is one of the reasons for Shrewsbury's good defensive work, the Blues are tied fourth in the league for goals conceded. One less than their opponents on Saturday.

Shaun Whalley

The tricky winger could be a player that can solve Salop's offensive woes. The 32-year-old has only started six games so far this season and has been introduced from the bench five times.

Whalley has got two assists this season and is a pacy winger that has great dribbling ability and likes to shoot from distance.

If Whalley plays, it will all depend on Sam Ricketts' formation on the day due to the manager's preference for the 3-5-2 winger-less formation.

There could also be a return for former Black Cat Donald Love.

The full-back plays his old side after his transfer to Shrewsbury Town in the summer.

He has appeared for Salop 13 times this season.
