The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has asked the Director of Medical Education (DME) to investigate the hardship caused to patients after the primary CT scanning machine at the Government Medical College Hospital here stopped functioning.
Commission chairperson Antony Dominic was taking suo motu action on the basis of a media report in connection with the matter.
The scanning machine that has been damaged is capable of generating 128 images with a single click. Though four days elapsed since the device went kaput, no steps had been taken to conduct investigations into the matter.

More than 1,000 patients who have received their scanning dates are waiting for the machine to functional again. It was reported that operating the machine beyond its operational period that ended in 2020 led to the fault.
