Showing of Joker with live orchestra coming to Usher Hall in Edinburgh

Joker has been tipped to win big at the Oscars, and there's a way to enjoy it in a fairly grand setting in Edinburgh.

Usher Hall is hosting a screening of the Joaquin Phoenix film which will be set to the sounds of a live orchestra.

Tickets are going on sale this week for the showing on July 6.

The film was released in October last year, telling the origin story of Batman's most infamous nemesis.

Phoenix plays Arthur Fleck, a failed comedian whose descent into madness transforms him into a deadly villain.

Usher Hall say: "Todd Phillips’ ground-breaking, award-winning film Joker will be screened with the accompaniment of a live orchestra playing composer Hildur Guðnadóttir’s award-winning score for the first time ever, for a limited engagement.

"Central to the emotional journey, Joaquin Phoenix’s character Arthur Fleck takes throughout the movie is Guðnadóttir’s beautifully haunting, Golden Globe-winning and BAFTA- and Academy Award-nominated score.

"The fusion of looming industrial soundscapes with raw, emotive string-led melodies - led by a lone cello - creates a melancholic shroud pinpricked with moments of hope, which unfolds gradually to become a fever pitch of disquieting tension."
