Showers expected to settle over Hunter for the weekend

Picture: Peter Lorimer

Around 25 millimetres of rain fell over Lookout Road Reservoir in around 30 minutes Thursday afternoon, as heavy showers settled over the city.

Forecasters with the Bureau of Meteorology were tracking a blanket of very humid air that has settled over much of NSW with a trough sitting over southern and western parts of the state, the culmination of which is expected to bring continued showers and storms to the region over the next few days.

Newcastle was expected to receive between 20 and 40 millimetres of rain on Friday, with a very high chance of showers after a possible thunderstorm early in the morning.

Meanwhile, Hunter SES has reported that moderate flooding has eased on the Upper Hunter at Denman, and crews have issues an 'all-clear' deeming Ogilvie, Palace and Jerdan streets safe.

Cloudy conditions were expected across Newcastle on Friday with maximums of 22 degrees.
