Should we hug? We want YOUR views by filling in our new survey

From Monday, Brits will be able to hug friends and family for the first time in over a year.

In what is a major milestone in our nation's fight against Covid, the Government has announced that rules around social distancing - and specifically hugging loved ones - will be relaxed as restrictions continue to ease.

However, the Government has urged the public to be sensible - with Boris Johnson encouraging the nation to give each other a 'cautious cuddle'.

The decision has split opinion - that is why we want to hear YOUR views on it.

ChronicleLive has launched a new survey - below - over the issue for our readers to share their thoughts.

Will you embrace friends and family from Monday? Or will you instead take a more cautious approach?

Some scientists argue hugging is a needless risk for many, especially those who are not yet vaccinated, and that with around 2,000 people a day still being infected with the virus it has the potential to let the killer big spread.

Others, however, say a hug helps make us feel human and that, having socially distanced for over a year, wrapping your arm around someone you care about will likely do more good than harm - especially with so many Brits now vaccinated.

PM Boris Johnson said that whoever he hugs first "will be done with caution and restraint", as he enters what the nation hopes will be the final ever month of a lockdown.
