'Should've won this' - Gary Lineker makes Mohamed Salah claim after Cristiano Ronaldo decision

Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the EA SPORTS Player of the Month for September 2021.

The 36-year-old returned to England this summer to join up with his former club and has scored three goals in his first four Premier League appearances.

Ronaldo last won the award 13 years ago in March 2008 before he completed a move to Real Madrid in July 2009.

However, despite starting well for United this season, a number of people believe Liverpool's Mohamed Salah should've received the award.

Former Leicester City and England striker Gary Lineker took to social media to voice his opinion on the announcement.

He tweeted: "He’s been terrific, but Mo Salah should’ve won this….comfortably."

The Egyptian has been in fantastic form for Liverpool so far and scored in all three of their league games in September.

Salah scored against Leeds United, Crystal Palace and Brentford last month as the Reds battle it out at the top of the table.

The 29-year-old was among six players to be named on the shortlist for the award earlier this week and the fan vote was combined with those of a panel of football experts to decide the winner.

Salah, Ronaldo, Joao Cancelo, Antonio Rudiger, Allan Saint-Maximin and Ismaila Sarr all earned nominations.

Salah was last named the Premier League's Player of the Month in 2018 as he won it back-to-back in February and March of that year.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was the last Liverpool player to claim the award in December 2019.
