Should the Vikings be interested in trading for Carlos Hyde?

Per multiple reports, the Jaguars are interested in trading running back Carlos Hyde.

This is probably something they should have considered before trading for Hyde last season for a fifth-round pick via Cleveland. But here we are.

Last season with Cleveland and Jacksonville, Hyde ran for 571 yards and five touchdowns while catching 10 passes for 33 yards.

Should the Vikings be interested?

In skill level alone and trade cost (likely a third-day draft pick), yes. Hyde, 28, is a season removed from back-to-back 900-yard rushing seasons. And he wouldn’t be relied on as an every-down back, he’d be a guy the team can throw in there when Dalvin Cook needs a breather.

With Latavius Murray a free agent, the Vikings are in the market for a backup running back.

But . . .

Here’s the kicker. As of March 13, Hyde is due $4.7 million next season which is a pretty penny to pay a backup running back, especially when you consider the Vikings could find a cheaper option in free agency or with one of their eight draft picks.

We also took a look at the Vikings’ possible interest in quarterback Josh Rosen. You can read that here.
