Should the Titans add ex-Raiders TE Lee Smith?

The Tennessee Titans have addressed a number of pressing needs this offseason, but could still afford to add a tight end.

Tennessee has a void to fill with the departure of blocking tight end Luke Stocker to the Atlanta Falcons earlier in the year.

One name the team should consider looking into is former Oakland Raiders tight end Lee Smith. Smith, a native of Powell, Tennessee, was cut by the Raiders on Thursday.

Smith would fit right in with his blocking ability, and would be reunited with Todd Downing, the current Titans tight ends coach.

The connection to Downing isn’t the only one he shares with the Titans, either. The 31-year-old was originally drafted to the New England Patriots in 2011 when Titans general manager Jon Robinson was the director of college scouting for Bill Belichick’s team.

The 6-foot-6, 265-pounder finished 2018 with 10 receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown over 16 games. He was also ranked the No. 2 tight end in the AFC West by Pro Football Focus, recording an overall grade of 79.0.

On his professional career, Smith totals 56 receptions for 392 yards and seven touchdowns over 107 appearances.
