Should the Steelers release Artie Burns before the start of 2019 training camp?

It’s times like these when we are reminded that the NFL is a business. The Pittsburgh Steelers have to make a business decision before the start of training camp, relating to cornerback Artie Burns. If the team keeps Burns on the roster at the start of training camp, it risks being on the hook for an $800,000 roster bonus.

But we all understand why the Steelers might not want to pay this. Burns struggled so much last season that he found himself benched. In addition, the Steelers brought in both free agent help and a draft pick to bolster the cornerback position.

At this point, it might be better for all sides if the Steelers do release Burns. This way he can find a new team and perhaps turns his career around in a new setting. It also gives the Steelers an opportunity to work with the players they have rather than expending energy and reps on try to get Burns back on track.
