Should the speed limit be reduced on the A40? Tell us what you think in our survey

There were 359 crashes on the A40 between Carmarthen and St Clears between 2010 and 2019. A quarter of the motorists involved were injured, and two people were killed.

The stretch of dual carriageway is eight and a half miles long and serves as the main route from Carmarthen to other Carmarthenshire towns to the west and Pembrokeshire. The Welsh Government is undertaking a study looking at safety - read more about that here. Options being considered include the closure of turn-offs and junctions, along with a reduction in the speed limit.

A 1.4-mile stretch has, since 2019, been made a 50mph zone, but an average of 96 drivers per hour were caught speeding along that section during 13 visits to the site by local GoSafe officers.

Would you support a reduction in the speed limit? We want to hear what you think in the survey below. If you're using the app, click "View interactive" to launch the survey.

If you sign up for our Carmarthenshire newsletter - at the bottom of the survey - we'll let you know the results as soon as we have them. Or sign up right now in our preference centre.
