Should the Seahawks pursue veteran receiver Pierre Garcon?

The Seattle Seahawks are not strangers to adding a low-cost, veteran receivers near the end of their playing careers.

Brandon Marshall was last year’s example, and in previous years the Seahawks have seen Percy Harvin, Sidney Rice, Terrell Owens and Jerry Rice don Seahawks uniforms and try to resurrect their once dominant NFL careers in the Emerald City.

Doug Baldwin’s retirement has opened up a spot in the Seahawks receiving corps heading into next season, and even though they drafted three rookies – DK Metcalf, Gary Jennings and John Ursua – coach Pete Carroll is always looking to add more competition to his roster.

If the team does decide to dip into the veteran free agent receiver market, one available option they could pursue is former 49er Pierre Garcon.

Garcon spent the last two seasons in San Francisco, playing in 16 total games and hauling in 64 receptions for 786 yards and one touchdown. Those numbers suggest he still has some juice left in the tank, although losing eight games to injury is obviously concerning for any player, nevermind a nearly 33-year-old receiver.

With Tyler Lockett, David Moore and Jaron Brown all returning to join the three rookies, Seattle’s receiver group is already pretty deep this season – and that’s not even including other roster candidates like Amara Darboh, Keenan Reynolds, Malik Turner, Caleb Scott and Terry Wright.

Garcon would probably make the Seahawks better, and if he is healthy he would challenge for a roster spot without a doubt.

However, it may make more sense for the Seahawks to save their money and look elsewhere this offseason, instead of going after their traditional aging wideout.
