Should the Seahawks pursue edge rusher Andrew Trumbetti?

Late Wednesday evening the Chicago Bears waived linebacker/edge rusher Andrew Trumbetti. He is now on waivers, meaning teams can claim him until 1:00 p.m. PT on Thursday.

Trumbetti went undrafted last season after an accomplished four-year career at Notre Dame. He played primarily on the defensive line while with the Irish, but the Bears moved him to outside linebacker after signing him as an undrafted free agent.

However, he was placed on the waived/injured reserve list in mid-August and did not see the field in 2018.

Now, the Seahawks have an opportunity to make a run at the very athletic and projectable edge rusher. Coach Pete Carroll has never had any problem taking on projects, particularly ones who have been lauded for their athleticism.

Seattle is in need of not only more edge rushing, but depth at the outside linebacker spot as well with K.J. Wright set to hit free agency and Mychal Kendricks’ legal situation still up in the air.

The time could be right to take a chance on a kid like Trumbetti. Worst case, big athletic guys like him are often very valuable on the special teams – another area Seattle could use more reinforcements heading into 2019.
