Should the Panthers call the Browns about trading for DE Emmanuel Ogbah?

Defensive end is the strongest position group in the 2019 NFL free agent class. Most of the good names are out of the Panthers’ range though, especially after the reports of former Broncos center Matt Paradis signing. Then again, Carolina really could use at least one more potential starter on the edge. With that in mind, the Panthers might want to call the Browns about Emmanuel Ogbah.

According to a report by Adam Schefter at ESPN, Cleveland’s deal to bring in Olivier Vernon means they are now shopping Ogbah. If you’ll recall, Ogbah was one of Mel Kiper’s April mock draft choices for the Panthers back in 2016.

While Ogbah has shown flashes, he hasn’t quite lived up to the hype yet.

In his rookie season, Ogbah posted a solid 5.5 sacks and 16 QB hits in 16 games. He’s only managed to post seven more sacks and just 13 QB hits over the last two years, though.

On the bright side, Ogbah’s contract is very enticing. He is only going to count for $2.1 million against the cap in the last year of his rookie deal, making it very easy for a team to move on without him if he doesn’t live up to his potential in 2019.

Trading late-round draft picks to fill needs in an expensive market is an underrated move. The Patriots just stole away Michael Bennett by doing it. The Panthers might try to do the same here.

Let’s open it up to a vote. Should Carolina call Cleveland about Ogbah and how much is he worth?
