Should the Giants sign kicker Graham Gano?

The New York Giants recently parted ways with Pro Bowl placekicker Aldrick Rosas after he was arrested earlier this year on charges stemming from a hit-and-run incident in California.

They signed journeyman Chandler Catanzaro to one-year deal but they will surely be scouring the free agent market for a better option.

Could that better option be former Carolina Panthers kicker Graham Gano? After all, he did play for Giants general manager Dave Gettleman in Carolina and the Giants remember him well for his game-winning, 63-yard field goal at the buzzer against them back in 2018.

Gano, 33, was rehabbing from a knee injury that caused him to miss the entire 2019 season when the Panthers parted ways with him on Thursday.

“The move saves $2.8 million against the cap and signals the Panthers are moving forward with Joey Slye at kicker. Gano missed all of 2019 with a knee issue and turned 33 earlier this offseason,” reports Rotoworld. “When healthy, Gano is one of the better kickers in the league, but it’s unclear if he’s back to 100%. Gano spent eight years in Carolina after three in Washington. He made one Pro Bowl. Perhaps Gano will be an option for the Giants with ex-Panthers GM Dave Gettleman.”

If healthy, Gano would certainly be an upgrade over Catanzaro, who Rotoworld says basically “retired last August” and is a “replacement-level kicker.”

Let’s keep in mind that former New England star kicker Stephen Gostkowski played for Giants head coach Joe Judge for several years in Foxborough, so he could still be in play as well.
