Should the Eagles inquire about DT Gerald McCoy if his release by the Bucs?

It’s a topic that was discussed at the beginning of the NFL offseason, but could Gerald McCoy be a quality option at defensive tackle for the Eagles? Rick Stroud broke the news that the Buccaneers do intend to release the former top-3 pick.

The six-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro is 31 years old, and with his play declining, the Buccaneers have no interest in paying the $13 million base salary he was due. McCoy is halfway through a seven-year, $93 million contract he signed in 2014 and will forfeit the $33,432,253 over to him over the next three seasons (none guaranteed) if cut.

he Eagles acquired two more defensive tackles during the draft, signing Timmy Jernigan back and then trading a late round pick to the Colts for Hassan Ridgeway. Jernigan if healthy should make the team, while Ridgeway as a run-stuffer and guy who can allow Cox to rest is also possible. The Eagles will likely carry 5 tackles and 5 edge rushers.

With Chris Long retiring, there’s a roster spot available. With the Eagles chasing Super Bowls and prepping for the future, could the Birds look for even more depth from a talented veteran?
