Should the Eagles have interest in LB Jamie Collins after his release from the Lions?

The Eagles have a need at the linebacker position and one of the NFL’s more versatile players is available on the open market.

Detroit announced that they’ve released veteran linebacker, Jamie Collins, choosing to go with younger players at the position.

In Philadelphia, Eric Wilson and Alex Singleton are logging tackles, but there are moments where both players have been out of position and late to the football.

The Lions benched Collins last week and decided to go with rookie Derrick Barnes, who started Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens and split playing time about equally with Jalen Reeves-Maybin.

He is 32-years-old and on the downside of his career, but he’s also versatile enough to play Genard Avery’s position at SAM linebacker or in the middle as a traditional tackling linebacker.

Collins has 25.5 career sacks, seven of which came in the 2019 season with the New England Patriots.

Collins had 110 total tackles, a sack, and three forced fumbles last season with the Lions and he’s inexpensive, $3.8 million this season and makes $9.8 million next season.
