Should the Chargers give Jason Verrett one final chance?

One of the more interesting offseason story lines is what the Chargers will do with former first round draft pick Jason Verrett. The team has a clear hole at corner where Verrett would be welcomed. The issue is being able to count on the player that was once thought of as a top five player at his position. He was really that good. It’s impossible to ignore his injuries, though.

Injury Bug

In 2014 Verrett appeared in six games. The following year is where all of the hype surrounding Verrett came from, and rightfully so. He had a great year as he appeared in 14 games. Unfortunately, 2015 appeared to be an anomaly. Verrett has played in five games in the last three years.

New deal?

Verrett would likely sign a one-year deal worth six figures. Feels like a safe bet that the incentives may reach a few million at most, but that’s only if he plays a certain amount of games. Verrett likely knows his next contract will be a prove it deal. Whether that’s with the Chargers or not. The fact that he’s been around the team all these years might make it easier to convince Verrett to sign a deal to continue to be around “his guys.”

What do you think? Should the Chargers bring Verrett back, or should they let him walk?
