Among the 23 soon-to-be free agents the Arizona Cardinals have on the roster, one is kicker Phil Dawson, whose contract expires after two seasons.
Continuing with our rundown of them, we now ask whether the Cardinals should re-sign Dawson.
The kicker position is far from solidified. The kicker they still have on the roster is Zane Gonzalez. While Gonzalez converted on 7-of-9 field goal attempts for the Cardinals, he has only made 70 percent of his kicks in his two years in the NFL.
Dawson has the reputation of being one of the most consistent kickers in the league, but that was not the case the past two seasons. He is 44 years old and missed 11 field goals over the last two years. He only attempted eight in 2018 and ended up on injured reserve.
With what the Cardinals paid Dawson, they can surely find a younger leg. And after 21 years in the NFL, Dawson might be done.
It would be a huge surprise if they chose to re-sign him. There are better and more cost-effective options.
