Should the Bengals consider signing former Lions RG T.J. Lang?

The Detroit Lions have released T.J. Lang. Should the Cincinnati Bengals explore adding the veteran right guard?

Per NBC’s Rotoworld, this move was to be expected.

Lang was entering the final year of his deal, and both sides expected this move with Lang set to count over $11.5 million against the cap. The release saves the Lions over $8.8 million in cap space. Lang missed 13 games in two seasons with the Lions, including 10 last year with a neck issue. He remained a productive player in 2017 but turns 32 this season. He makes more sense for a team competing for a playoff spot rather than a rebuilding Detroit club.

As Rotoworld explained, Lang makes more sense for a team that’ll be competing this upcoming year. The Bengals, behind a rejuvenated coaching staff and fanbase, hope to be a team at the top of the league.

The Bengals, unless they decide to draft an offensive lineman, don’t have many options to fill the gaps on their line.

While it’s hard to quantify the need for a better line, former head coach Marvin Lewis did mention it as a need when he made his broadcasting debut.

“They’ve got to go and fix the offensive line,” Lewis said, per Cincinnati.com.

Per Pro Football Focus, Lang is a “good” lineman, a rating superior to average and above average. They gave him an overall score of 72.0. That said, Lang could be a cheap and necessary addition for the Bengals.

That begs the question: Should the Bengals sign T.J. Lang?
