Should the Bears trade for Minkah Fitzpatrick?

The Chicago Bears added a former Alabama Crimson Tide safety this offseason. How about another one?

The Miami Dolphins have given safety Minkah Fitzpatrick permission to seek a trade from the tanking franchise that was blown out in Week 1 by the Baltimore Ravens.

Fitzpatrick was Miami’s first-round pick and the first safety taken in the 2018 NFL Draft. He was college teammates with Eddie Jackson for two seasons.

The Bears have their second starting safety in place for 2019 with another one of Jackson’s Alabama teammates, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. His contract only runs through this season, though, and he’ll be looking to cash in on a long-term deal this spring.

His $3.5 million salary isn’t limiting the Bears options at safety, and Fitzpatrick could be a cheaper upgrade that stabilizes the position long-term.

The Dolphins are reportedly seeking significant compensation for the promising young safety, which greatly reduces the chances of a trade to Chicago, but Ryan Pace would be wise to at least gauge the market.

The best-run teams in the NFL take advantage of the poorly run teams bleeding talent as they tank, and some general manager will be very lucky to rescue Fitzpatrick from the sinking ship in Miami.
