Should the Bears consider signing Carlos Hyde?

The Chicago Bears are in the hunt for a running back and a pretty solid veteran just got dumped into the open market.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Jaguars are cutting ties with veteran Carlos Hyde, who they acquired via trade last season.

Hyde’s had some nice moments as a pro dating back to his time with the 49ers from 2014-2017. Injuries have been his toughest opponent since joining the league as a second-round pick out of Ohio State; when healthy, Hyde is a beast.

His best season came in 2016 when he ran for 988 yards and six touchdowns (4.6 yards per carry) in just 13 games.

Hyde presents as a legitimate option for the Bears to pursue if they want to flip Jordan Howard into a draft pick but still want a veteran who has experience shouldering the load on the roster. And they could catch lightning in a bottle with him, too; if he stays healthy, he’s a 1,200-yard back.
