Should Steelers use transition tag on Le’Veon Bell?

In a little under two weeks, the window will open for the Pittsburgh Steelers to place the transition tag on running back Le’Veon Bell. Pittsburgh has from Feb. 19 to March 5 to decide if the risk is worth the potential reward of the tag on the disgruntled, albeit supremely talented, back.

The question today isn’t whether you think the front office will tag Bell, but should they?

If the Steelers use the tag on Bell, they have an opportunity to match any contract offer Bell would get. His value is going to be the big question answered when free agency starts. Bell and the Steelers could never agree on what Bell’s value was, but once free agency hits we will know how the rest of the league views it as well.

The tag does have a risk: If the Steelers do not match any offer Bell gets and he signs elsewhere, they would likely forfeit any compensatory pick. It isn’t the end of the world but something to consider.

Cast your vote and tell us if you want to see the front office take one last shot with Bell.
