Should Seahawks consider a trade for Jaguars DE Yannick Ngakoue?

Free agency is finally upon us, and the Seattle Seahawks have not reached a deal with edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney yet. Defensive end Yannick Ngakoue would be a viable replacement for Clowney if Seattle does not resign him.

Ngakoue recently posted an Instagram story in an area that some pointed out resembled the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, particularly the carpet. At first glance, this could raise speculation that Ngakoue is in cahoots with the Seahawks.

However, NFL teams are not allowed to have visits or formal meetings with players until March 31 as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. Additionally, Ngakoue recently acquired the franchise tag from the Jaguars, so Seattle would have to trade for him to acquire his services. By slapping the tag on Ngakoue, Jacksonville could be looking to deal him away.

The concept of Seattle netting Ngakoue as a replacement for Clowney is intriguing. The four-year veteran has 37.5 sacks and 14 forced fumbles throughout his career so far and is still relatively young, as he will soon turn 25 years old.

However, Ngakoue will not be easy for any team to acquire, as trading for him will likely come with a hefty price tag. The Seahawks are no exception. Whatever happens, they will have to find a way to address their pass rush.
