Should Miami re-sign running back Frank Gore?

The Miami Dolphins are expecting a youth movement to come to town. Doing so typically means letting older, more experienced players walk out the door. One such free agent this off-season for Miami is veteran running back Frank Gore, who unexpectedly commanded the lion’s share of carries in 2018 (156) and averaged his best yards per carry (4.6) since 2012.

That was, of course, before the Miami native sprained his foot in mid-December and the Dolphins placed the 35-year old on IR. It was an unceremonious ending to Gore’s first season in Miami since 2004, when he was a Hurricane.

But the injury hasn’t signified the end for Gore, at least not yet. Adam Schefter reported in December that Gore hoped to return to football in 2019 for his 15th NFL season.

Should that be with the Dolphins?

Yes, absolutely. And here is why. Coach Brian Flores’ culture movement is centered around things like character, professionalism and work ethic. Gore oozes these qualities.

Furthermore, how expensive will it be? The team can’t possibly scoff at a similar value to what they paid Gore in 2018 ($1.105M). Gore’s experience and leadership would be well worth the value for the Dolphins and his presence could help coach Flores shape this team’s personality in 2019.
