Should I tell work about a drink-driving conviction?

Work ethics is a fortnightly feature in Guardian Work where a reader submits a workplace dilemma and asks for your help. A selection of the best answers will appear in Saturday's paper. (And if you have a dilemma you'd like to share, anonymously, with our readers, please email us.)

This week's question

Some years ago I got convicted for drink-driving; I didn't tell work as it didn't seem to affect them. But I might now have to go to the US on business and will need a special stamp on my passport. Should I tell my boss? I've been underperforming lately due to several issues (including a bereavement and a divorce) and am on a "final warning".
